Julio Borbón has joined the Milwaukee Brewers as their new first base coach, following three years with the Minnesota Twins organization. The announcement was made by Brewers president of baseball operations, Matt Arnold, on Tuesday. Borbón replaces Quintin Berry, who held the position for four seasons before moving on to become the Chicago Cubs’ third base coach.
At 38 years old, Borbón brings a wealth of experience to the team. Since 2022, he worked as the assistant coordinator of instruction in the Twins’ player development system, and from 2019 to 2021, he was part of the New York Yankees’ minor league system.
Borbón’s playing career spanned 294 games with the Texas Rangers (2009-2011), Chicago Cubs (2013), and Baltimore Orioles (2016).
His hiring completes the coaching staff for 2024 NL Manager of the Year, Pat Murphy. The staff also includes associate manager Rickie Weeks, field coordinator Néstor Corredor, third base coach Jason Lane, pitching coach Chris Hook, assistant pitching and strategy coach Jim Henderson, bullpen coach Charlie Greene, lead hitting coach Al LeBoeuf, hitting coaches Connor Dawson and Eric Theisen, assistant coach Daniel de Mondesert, and infield coach Matt Erickson. Christian Correa and Adam Weisenburger will serve as bullpen catchers.
LeBoeuf and Theisen are the only other recent additions to the staff, with their hires announced in October.
