Walsall Manager Determined to Secure Victory Over Reading in EFL Trophy
Walsall boss Matt Sadler has expressed his strong determination to defeat Reading FC tonight and advance in the EFL Trophy.
Currently leading League Two, Walsall and Reading will face off for the first time since 2016, marking their first encounter in the Midlands since 2003.
The match, a Round of 32 clash in the Vertu Trophy, will see both teams likely making lineup changes as they vie for a coveted spot in the Round of 16, scheduled for the New Year.
Last season, Reading reached the Round of 16 but were eliminated by Brighton and Hove Albion on penalties, following a penalty shootout victory over Charlton Athletic in the previous round.
Reflecting on his team’s recent rise to the top of League Two after defeating Port Vale, Sadler confirmed plans to rotate players while emphasizing his desire to progress further.
“We’ll make a few changes and ensure everyone is up to speed,” Sadler said in a media briefing. “But we’ll field a team capable of winning because that’s what matters most. We’re desperate to win and advance in this competition. It offers incredible memories, and I’ve experienced some myself—I want even more.”
As a player, Sadler reached the EFL Trophy final with Shrewsbury Town but fell short of claiming the title, losing to Lincoln City.
