JUST IN: Blue Jays Set Sights on $119M Astros Icon as Shocking Plan B After Juan Soto Bid Falls Short.

The Toronto Blue Jays are reportedly seeking infield help in free agency after Bo Bichette’s difficult 2024 season, with his contract set to expire at the end of 2025. One of their primary targets was Milwaukee Brewers shortstop Willy Adames, but Adames has since agreed to a seven-year, $182 million deal with the San Francisco Giants. As a result, the Blue Jays are shifting focus to other infield options.

FanSided’s Chris Landers recently proposed that Toronto should target Houston Astros free agent infielder Alex Bregman, who is expected to sign a four-year, $119 million contract according to Spotrac. Landers emphasized that Bregman is now the only available infielder who could replicate Adames’ offensive impact, making him a key addition if the Blue Jays are to remain competitive in the tough AL East against teams like the New York Yankees, Baltimore Orioles, and Boston Red Sox.

While Bregman is not the shortstop replacement Toronto originally sought, he would pair with Bichette in the infield. Despite the hefty price tag, Bregman could be a feasible option for the Blue Jays, especially if they miss out on Juan Soto, leaving them with ample funds to make a significant acquisition. Although Spotrac estimates Bregman’s deal to be worth under $120 million, the actual contract could likely exceed $150 million.
