JUST IN: Stunning Phillies-Astros Trade Proposal Sends Alec Bohm Packing for Two-Time All-Star.

The Houston Astros are facing a significant gap at third base as their homegrown star, Alex Bregman, explores free agency. If general manager Dana Brown is unable to bring Bregman back, could a trade for Philadelphia Phillies’ Alec Bohm be the solution? Bohm, a 2024 All-Star, had an impressive season with 97 RBIs and 44 doubles. However, with Phillies president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski looking to shake up the roster, Bohm could be on the move. The Phillies have recently been connected to Bregman, which raises the possibility that they might trade Bohm for him. In his Winter Meetings preview, USA Today’s Bob Nightengale suggested that if Bregman doesn’t return to Houston, the Phillies could offer Bohm in exchange for Astros reliever Ryan Pressly, who is reportedly available.

Pressly, a two-time All-Star, saw his role shift in 2024 after losing his closer spot to Josh Hader, who signed a $95 million deal to anchor the Astros’ bullpen. A trade for Pressly could serve as a short-term fix for the Phillies, who lost key bullpen pieces Jeff Hoffman and Carlos Estévez to free agency. Pressly is set to earn $14 million in 2025 before becoming a free agent himself.
