JUST IN: Florida State Defensive Back Enters NCAA Transfer Portal for Third Time…

Senior defensive back Omarion Cooper, a veteran of Florida State’s football program, has entered the NCAA Transfer Portal for the third time as the portal opens on Monday, December 9. Cooper, who recently completed his fourth collegiate season, has split his time between Florida State and Colorado over the past two years. Limited to just three games in 2024, Cooper recorded two tackles and a pass breakup, preserving a redshirt year and maintaining one final season of eligibility.

Initially recruited to Florida State in 2021 as a four-star prospect, Cooper became a regular in the defensive rotation. The Seminoles considered transitioning him to safety in the spring of 2023, but he opted to transfer to Colorado instead. While with the Buffaloes, he had his most productive season, tallying 37 tackles, two tackles for loss, a sack, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, and five pass deflections.

After a year with Colorado, Cooper returned to Florida State for the 2024 season but struggled to secure significant playing time. Across his college career, he has appeared in 32 games, including 15 starts, and has amassed 69 tackles, two tackles for loss, a sack, two forced fumbles, a fumble recovery, three interceptions, and ten pass deflections. Standing at 6-foot-0 and weighing 202 pounds, Cooper offers versatility as both a cornerback and safety.

Cooper is the fifth Florida State scholarship player to enter the transfer portal following the team’s 2-10 season. Other players declaring their intentions include wide receiver Deuce Spann, tight end Jackson West, defensive end Byron Turner Jr., and defensive tackle Tomiwa Durojaiye.

Looking ahead to 2025, Florida State has 12 scholarship defensive backs eligible to return, including several redshirt upperclassmen and freshmen. The Seminoles also bolstered their secondary during the Early Signing Period by adding four-star recruits Zae Thomas and Shamar Arnoux, as well as three-star signee Max Redmon.
