JUST IN: An Insider Drops Latest Update on Phillies-Astros Swap Trade in a Blockbuster Deal…

Rumored Trade Between Phillies and Astros Sparks Interest

A potential trade scenario involving the Philadelphia Phillies and Houston Astros has garnered attention during MLB’s offseason. According to USA Today’s Bob Nightengale, this hypothetical deal would see the Phillies trade third baseman Alec Bohm to the Astros, possibly in exchange for a late-inning reliever.

“The Phillies know they can’t go into 2025 with the same offensive approach,” Nightengale wrote. “While their lineup is one of the most explosive in baseball, postseason struggles have shown it can also be predictable for opposing pitchers. Change is necessary, and Bohm, among Nick Castellanos, Brandon Marsh, and himself, holds the highest trade value. If the Astros lose Alex Bregman to free agency, expect Phillies president Dave Dombrowski to offer Bohm in exchange for Astros reliever Ryan Pressly, who is reportedly being shopped extensively.”

For the Phillies, improving their bullpen remains a priority, making Pressly an attractive target. However, this deal hinges on the Astros losing Bregman, one of MLB’s top third basemen, who is poised to secure a lucrative contract in free agency. Should Bregman depart, Bohm could be a viable replacement, offering the Astros long-term benefits.

Could Alec Bohm Help the Astros Long-Term?

Alec Bohm, who still has two years of team control, has emerged as a key contributor for the Phillies. The former first-round pick achieved a career-high WAR of 3.0 last season and drove in 97 runs for the second consecutive year, solidifying his role in the Phillies lineup. While he is a valuable player, his trade value could allow the Phillies to address other pressing needs.

Adding Ryan Pressly to the bullpen would give the Phillies a reliable power arm, potentially filling their closer role. Addressing relief pitching has been a consistent challenge for Philadelphia, and acquiring Pressly could help them compete for another World Series title.

Meanwhile, the Astros might consider parting with Pressly, as their current closer is Josh Hader, who joined the team on a significant free-agent deal last offseason.

Ultimately, this trade depends on Alex Bregman’s future in Houston. If he leaves in free agency, the Astros could view Bohm as a viable replacement. If Bregman stays, the trade becomes less likely. With third base being a key position for several teams, Bregman’s decision will shape the direction the Astros take.
