The Las Vegas Raiders’ running game is showing improvement, thanks in part to the efforts of Sincere McCormick. With injuries sidelining Alexander Mattison and Zamir White, McCormick was elevated from the practice squad for two consecutive games and made the most of his opportunity.
As a result of his impressive performances, the Raiders have promoted McCormick to the active roster. This marks a significant milestone for the 24-year-old running back, who spent three seasons on the Raiders’ practice squad before making his debut this year.
McCormick has shown promise, averaging 5.7 yards per carry over the last two games. A standout at the University of Texas at San Antonio, McCormick joined the Raiders as an undrafted free agent in 2022 but faced early-career injuries. With Mattison and White underperforming this season, McCormick has stepped up, tallying 17 carries and earning an opportunity to take on a larger role during the final five games of the season.
DJ Turner Moved to Injured Reserve
The Raiders’ injury woes continue as wide receiver DJ Turner has been placed on Injured Reserve to create roster space for McCormick. Turner, who recently earned a starting role, was enjoying a breakout year with 16 receptions for 158 yards, five rushing attempts for 33 yards, and one touchdown.
Known for his contributions on special teams, Turner was beginning to establish himself as a key offensive asset. Unfortunately, with only five games remaining, his season is likely over. Despite this setback, Turner’s performance in 2024 could secure him another opportunity with the Raiders in 2025.
Raiders Struggle Amidst Mounting Injuries
Injuries have plagued the Raiders throughout the 2024 season, significantly impacting their performance. Defensive end Malcolm Koonce suffered a season-ending injury before the season began, and the list of sidelined players has only grown. Key contributors like defensive tackle Christian Wilkins, quarterback Gardner Minshew, and defensive backs Marcus Epps and Jakorian Bennett are all on Injured Reserve.
Other vital players, including Divine Deablo, Maxx Crosby, and Michael Mayer, have also missed games, leaving the Raiders with insufficient depth to compete effectively. With a 2-10 record and tied for the league’s worst, Las Vegas must focus on bolstering its roster depth to rebound in 2025.
