The New York Mets are reportedly exploring the possibility of adding a former All-Star pitcher to strengthen their bullpen. After coming close to reaching the World Series last season, only to be defeated by the eventual champions, the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Mets are looking to make strategic improvements to their roster to enhance their postseason prospects.
According to Mike Mayer of Metsmerized, the Mets have expressed interest in free-agent reliever Mike Soroka, who was once an All-Star with the Atlanta Braves. Most recently, Soroka played for the Chicago White Sox in 2024, appearing in 25 games, including nine starts. Although his career has been hampered by injuries, Soroka transitioned to a bullpen role in May 2024 and excelled, posting a stellar 2.75 ERA over 36 innings and recording 60 strikeouts. His strong performance in relief has made him an appealing option for the Mets.
If Soroka can maintain his recent form, he could become a valuable asset for New York. While he may not be the dominant pitcher he was in 2019 with the Braves, his ability to contribute effectively as a reliever has reignited interest from top teams like the Mets.
Bolstering the Bullpen a Priority for the Mets
Improving the bullpen is a key focus for the Mets, who ranked 17th in bullpen ERA last season. With free agents such as Adam Ottavino, Drew Smith, and Phil Maton potentially departing, the Mets are motivated to reinforce their relief pitching. Their rumored interest in Soroka aligns with these efforts, alongside their pursuit of high-profile free agents like Juan Soto.

In addition to bullpen upgrades, the Mets must address their starting rotation, as key pitchers Luis Severino, Sean Manaea, and Jose Quintana are also free agents.
