JUST IN: Toronto Blue Jays Linked to a Potential Blockbuster Move for Ex-Yankees and Mets Pitching Ace.

The Toronto Blue Jays are reportedly targeting a familiar face in free agency as they aim to bolster their roster following a disappointing 2024 season.

After making playoff appearances in 2022 and 2023, the Blue Jays stumbled this year, finishing last in the American League East with a 74-88 record. The organization and fans alike are eager for a turnaround, prompting the team to pursue top-tier talent, including high-profile free agents like New York Yankees superstar Juan Soto. While Soto remains a primary focus, the Blue Jays are also exploring other impactful additions.

One such target is veteran pitcher Luis Severino, a free agent from the New York Mets. According to Sportsnet MLB reporter Ben Nicholson-Smith, Toronto has expressed interest in Severino, who recently declined a one-year qualifying offer worth $21.05 million. The 30-year-old former All-Star with the Yankees was once considered their ace, although injuries—including Tommy John surgery—limited his appearances from 2019 to 2021.

Severino’s 2024 season with the Mets was a significant rebound, as he posted an 11-7 record, a 3.91 ERA, and 161 strikeouts over 182 innings. His performance contributed to the Mets’ surprising run to the National League Championship Series. Now a free agent, Severino is projected to secure a three-year deal worth around $60 million, a substantial increase from the team-friendly $13 million contract he signed with the Mets before the season.

Adding Severino could provide a much-needed boost to Toronto’s pitching rotation as the team looks to return to contention in 2025.
