Braves’ Star Pitcher Predicted to Sign $175 Million Contract with Red Sox
The Atlanta Braves face a crucial offseason after a disappointing 2024 campaign, marked by injuries and underwhelming performances across the board. Despite entering the season with high hopes, the Braves failed to meet expectations, and analysts are now predicting potential setbacks for the team in 2025.
One significant blow could come from the departure of star pitcher Max Fried. ESPN’s David Schoenfield predicts that Fried, a highly sought-after free agent, will leave Atlanta to join the Boston Red Sox on a six-year, $175 million deal. If this move happens, Fried would reunite with his high school teammate, Lucas Giolito, in Boston. Schoenfield highlighted Fried’s potential fit with the Red Sox, noting Boston’s lack of left-handed starters and Fried’s ability to induce ground balls, which suits Fenway Park’s dimensions.
The Red Sox have long targeted Fried and are prioritizing left-handed pitching this offseason. Their top options on the market include Fried and Garrett Crochet of the Chicago White Sox, but Fried offers more stability and does not require giving up key prospects.
For Atlanta, losing Fried without securing another elite pitcher could prove disastrous. The Braves already struggled with pitching depth in 2024, and failing to address this issue could hinder their chances of bouncing back next season.
