JUST IN: Thrilling Cubs-Blue Jays Trade Proposal Could See Five Stars Swap Teams in Blockbuster Deal.

The Chicago Cubs remain a hot topic in trade rumors this offseason, with one of the latest involving the potential departure of outfielder Cody Bellinger and his substantial contract. While it’s unlikely the Cubs will part ways with Bellinger due to the size of his deal, they aren’t shying away from exploring trade possibilities. On MLB Network, Anthony Castrovince proposed an ambitious trade that would send Bellinger, along with two other promising young players, to the Toronto Blue Jays in exchange for superstar first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and more. Here’s the trade Castrovince laid out:

Chicago Cubs receive:

  • 1B Vladimir Guerrero Jr.
  • RHP Kevin Gausman

Toronto Blue Jays receive:

  • 1B Michael Busch
  • 1B/OF Cody Bellinger
  • RHP Cade Horton (Cubs’ No. 3 prospect)

Before diving into the specifics, it’s important to note that the Blue Jays are unlikely to part with their superstar first baseman unless he pushes for a trade, which isn’t currently the case. Toronto is focused on building a contender for 2025, and this proposed trade doesn’t align with that long-term vision.

While Michael Busch is a promising first baseman with potential, he doesn’t come close to matching Guerrero’s caliber. The Blue Jays have the financial flexibility to absorb Bellinger’s contract, but that doesn’t make it a wise move. Taking on Bellinger’s large deal would diminish the value of what Toronto could offer in return, making this trade a non-starter. Cade Horton is a talented pitcher with ace potential, but even with him and Busch, this trade wouldn’t make sense for the Blue Jays.

In reality, Guerrero is staying put in Toronto. The Blue Jays are more likely to extend his contract than trade him, making this blockbuster deal highly improbable.
