WNBA Star Caitlin Clark Pursues Ownership in Women’s Soccer…
Caitlin Clark, the reigning WNBA Rookie of the Year and a standout for the Indiana Fever, is exploring opportunities outside basketball. Known for her love of NFL football and skill in golf—enough to participate in LPGA pro-am events—Clark is reportedly involved in a new venture: bringing a National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) expansion team to Cincinnati.
According to ESPN, Clark is part of a group aiming to secure an NWSL franchise for the city. A representative from the ownership group, which also manages MLS team FC Cincinnati, expressed enthusiasm about her involvement. “We’re thrilled that Caitlin Clark has joined our ownership group in pursuit of a women’s professional soccer team for Cincinnati,” the representative said. They praised her dedication to elevating women’s sports in the region and her influence as an athlete and role model.
The group’s bid aligns with other efforts to bring NWSL teams to cities like Cleveland, Denver, Nashville, and Philadelphia. The new team, slated to debut in 2026, would expand the league to 16 teams, alongside a previously announced Boston franchise. League commissioner Jessica Berman confirmed Cincinnati’s status as a finalist and highlighted Clark’s involvement.
“Caitlin’s achievements in women’s sports are historic and transformative,” Berman stated. “Her interest in the NWSL is an incredible honor. She’s shared her story as a former soccer player, and her passion for multi-sport athletics is inspiring for young athletes.”
The NWSL’s championship match, featuring the Orlando Pride and Washington Spirit, will take place tomorrow. If Clark wants to solidify Cincinnati’s bid, her presence at the event could send a strong message.
