JUST IN: San Francisco 49ers Reunite with Ex-Packers Defensive End and UFL Standout for Practice Squad Boost.

The San Francisco 49ers are re-signing defensive end Jonathan Garvin to their practice squad, according to his agency. Garvin initially joined the team during training camp on a one-year deal and has been bouncing between the active roster and practice squad since then. Before his time with the 49ers, Garvin played in the UFL and spent three seasons (2020-2022) with the Green Bay Packers.

This move raises questions: Are the 49ers simply reinforcing their practice squad, or could Garvin offer potential support for special teams? The team originally released him in September, and he has yet to play a snap on defense or special teams this season.

Some speculate this decision could hint at concerns about Nick Bosa’s health. While Yetur Gross-Matos returned to action last week and Leonard Floyd has been a key contributor, the 49ers’ depth at edge rusher remains thin. Robert Beal Jr., for instance, has provided little impact. Garvin’s familiarity with the system might make him a valuable asset if Bosa needs time to recover.

Coach Kyle Shanahan is expected to address Bosa’s injury status Wednesday afternoon. If Bosa cannot practice, Garvin may serve as an extra body during the week while the team assesses its options.
