The New Orleans Saints announced two roster adjustments early this week, as revealed by General Manager and Executive Vice President Mickey Loomis on Tuesday.
Heading into their bye week after securing a second consecutive win under interim coach Darren Rizzi, the 4-7 Saints recently defeated the Cleveland Browns on Sunday.
One of the moves included re-signing wide receiver and kick returner Jermaine Jackson to the practice squad. An undrafted rookie from Idaho, Jackson has been part of both the active roster and practice squad throughout the season.
Standing 5’7″ and weighing 170 pounds, Jackson has appeared in four games this season. Though his offensive contributions have been limited—one rush for negative yardage and no passing targets in just four snaps—he has proven valuable as a return specialist.
Jackson has averaged 9.7 yards on seven punt returns and 23.4 yards on eight kickoff returns this season. Initially stepping in for Rashid Shaheed after Shaheed’s season-ending knee injury, Jackson briefly lost his role to Dante Pettis before being released ahead of last week’s win over Cleveland.
To clear space for Jackson on the practice squad, the Saints placed defensive end Trajan Jeffcoat on injured reserve. The undrafted rookie from Arkansas has spent most of the season on the practice squad but has yet to appear in a game.
The Saints are on a much-needed bye this week and will return to action on Sunday, December 1, when they face the 5-5 Los Angeles Rams at home.
