Walsall defender Liam Gordon has praised Jamie Jellis for an exceptional start to his debut full season in the Football League.
Jellis has been a key player for Walsall, starting 13 of their first 14 League Two matches this season. Despite battling illness before their 2-2 draw against Chesterfield, the 23-year-old still contributed during the final 20 minutes of the game. Since joining from non-league Tamworth in January, Jellis has scored three goals in his last five starts across all competitions.
Jellis has formed a strong partnership with Connor Barrett on the right flank, playing a pivotal role in Walsall’s impressive performances in both league and cup competitions. This dynamic duo has helped the team climb to second place in the League Two standings, with 27 points from their opening 14 games.
Gordon highlighted Jellis’s impact, saying, “JJ has been outstanding. His runs, especially when Taylor plays diagonals into space, are nearly impossible to defend against. They confuse both centre-backs and full-backs.”
He added, “Jamie and Connor have dominated that side of the pitch. Their connection has been a driving force for our success this season. If we keep supporting them effectively, they’ll continue to deliver results for the team.”
