The Kansas City Chiefs are making a roster adjustment following an injury during practice this week. As they prepare to face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Monday night, the undefeated Chiefs (7-0) will find themselves short on pass catchers.
To bolster their lineup, Kansas City traded for DeAndre Hopkins in Week 8, but they are still without Marquise Brown (shoulder) and Rashee Rice (knee) due to injuries.
Tight end Travis Kelce stands as the team’s top receiver, having recorded 38 receptions for 335 yards and a touchdown over the first seven games. Unfortunately, they will be missing another tight end for the upcoming match.
Rookie Jared Wiley appeared on the injury report on Friday with a knee issue and was limited in practice. Head coach Andy Reid later confirmed that Wiley has torn his ACL, leading the Chiefs to promote Peyton Hendershot for the game against the Buccaneers.
“Head coach Andy Reid says Chiefs rookie TE Jared Wiley tore his ACL, and TE Peyton Hendershot will be called up to play against the Buccaneers on Monday night,” reported Pete Sweeney of Arrowhead Pride. Additionally, wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster (hamstring) has also been ruled out.
Hendershot has played in one game this season for the Chiefs but has yet to record any offensive statistics in 2024. Since entering the league as an undrafted free agent in 2022, he has participated in 26 games and notched 15 receptions for 141 yards and two touchdowns during his first two seasons with the Dallas Cowboys.
Wiley, selected in the fourth round of this year’s draft, has one reception for seven yards this season. He began his college career at Texas before transferring to TCU.
