Amid the uncertainty surrounding the New Orleans Saints and the challenges the team is currently facing, one of their key players has committed to staying for the next couple of years. Running back Alvin Kamara has agreed to a two-year, $24.5 million contract extension, as reported by NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo.
Earlier in the week, Kamara denied rumors that he had requested a trade, and this extension solidifies the mutual loyalty between him and the team. While fans have many concerns about the Saints’ future, they no longer need to worry about who will be the starting running back.
Besides keeping Kamara in the backfield, this deal also positively impacts the Saints’ challenging salary cap situation. According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, the team will save roughly $18 million on the 2025 salary cap. This financial flexibility could help the front office revitalize the struggling roster.
Despite a rough 2-5 start to the 2024-25 season, there’s no sign of major roster changes yet. General manager Mickey Loomis seems focused on retaining the team’s core players, likely more concerned with improving the squad’s health than making drastic personnel moves at this time.
