DeAndre Hopkins is joining the Kansas City Chiefs from the Tennessee Titans in a major trade, boosting the Super Bowl champions’ receiving corps after a series of injuries hit the team’s unbeaten start to the season.
The Chiefs traded a conditional fifth-round pick, which could become a fourth-round pick, to acquire Hopkins, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
This trade follows the Chiefs losing key receiver Rashee Rice to a season-ending knee injury and offseason addition Hollywood Brown, who is out for the year with a shoulder injury. JuJu Smith-Schuster is also set to miss the Chiefs’ upcoming game against the Las Vegas Raiders due to a hamstring injury he suffered in their recent win over the San Francisco 49ers.
Hopkins brings much-needed depth to the Chiefs’ offense, which has relied heavily on its running game and defense during their perfect 6-0 start to the season.
The 12-year NFL veteran signed a two-year contract with the Titans in July 2023 and led the team with 75 catches, 1,057 yards, and seven touchdowns in 17 games last season. So far this season, Hopkins has 15 catches for 173 yards and a touchdown. A five-time Pro Bowl selection, Hopkins has 943 career receptions for 12,528 yards and 79 touchdowns over 168 games with the Houston Texans, Arizona Cardinals, and Tennessee Titans.
