JUST IN: $72 Million Wide Receiver Identified as Possible Target for Kansas City Chiefs Ahead of Trade Deadline.

The Kansas City Chiefs recently secured a 28-18 win against the San Francisco 49ers, improving their record to 6-0 and making them the only undefeated team in the NFL this season.

Despite their success, the Chiefs’ offense has faced significant challenges. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes and the team have struggled throughout the year, averaging just 24.3 points per game. Notably, Mahomes, often considered the league’s top quarterback, has thrown more interceptions than touchdowns this season.

Following the Week 7 victory over the 49ers, Mahomes’ stats included six touchdowns, 1,389 passing yards, and a completion rate of 67.9%. However, he has also thrown eight interceptions, with at least one in every game played so far.

A significant factor contributing to these struggles is the lack of support from wide receivers. Rashee Rice, the Chiefs’ top receiver, has been ruled out for the season after undergoing knee surgery following his injury in Week 4 against the Los Angeles Chargers. Since then, the team has been searching for a reliable receiver, relying on Mecole Hardman, JuJu Smith-Schuster, Skyy Moore, and Justin Watson.

Amid these challenges, there have been trade discussions linking Christian Kirk of the Jacksonville Jaguars to the Chiefs. CBS Sports writer Cody Benjamin identified Kirk as a potential trade target, noting that his playing style could be a good fit for Kansas City. He mentioned, “His history working out of the slot suggests he’d be a perfect multipurpose option for Reid’s offense, giving Kansas City a more reliable catch-and-run threat.”

This season, Kirk has recorded one touchdown, 25 receptions, and 320 yards in his third year with Jacksonville after starting with the Arizona Cardinals. His best season came in 2022, when he achieved eight touchdowns, 84 receptions, and 1,108 yards—the only time he surpassed 1,000 yards in a single season.

Kirk signed a free-agent contract with Jacksonville in 2022 and is set to earn a base salary of $14.5 million in 2024 and $15.5 million in 2025. After his four-year, $72 million deal expires, he will become an unrestricted free agent in 2026.
