A knee injury suffered by Brandon Aiyuk could potentially put an end to his season with the San Francisco 49ers after Week 7.
This season has been a rollercoaster for 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk. After participating in a hold-in during training camp and nearly being traded to two different teams, he eventually secured the contract extension he was aiming for. However, his performance on the field hasn’t matched those expectations.
Lacking game-time experience over the summer, Aiyuk had a slow start to the 2024 NFL season, which wasn’t entirely unexpected. Recently, though, he had shown signs of getting back to his previous form from the last two seasons. Unfortunately, his momentum may have come to a sudden halt this past Sunday.
During the first half of the 49ers’ Week 7 game against the Kansas City Chiefs, Aiyuk took a heavy hit from two Chiefs defenders. A replay revealed that his right knee bent awkwardly, indicating a possible serious injury.
Aiyuk was eventually helped off the field but did not return to the game. Afterward, head coach Kyle Shanahan disclosed that the team fears the receiver likely suffered an ACL tear.
