The Kansas City Chiefs aim to remain unbeaten this Sunday as they take on the San Francisco 49ers.
Traditionally known for their high-scoring offense, the Chiefs have found their success this season primarily through their defense. Kansas City’s defensive unit has been particularly effective at preventing big plays, allowing the second-fewest plays of over 10 yards (51) and 20 yards (12) in the NFL.
Their run defense has been particularly strong, permitting only 88 rushing yards per game, which ranks fifth-best in the league.
On the other hand, the 49ers have thrived offensively in similar metrics, standing third in rushing yards per game (158) and leading the league with the most plays of 20 yards or more (31).
A significant factor in the 49ers’ performance this year has been emerging running back Jordan Mason, who has recorded the second-most rushing yards in the league (609) after stepping in for the injured Christian McCaffrey in Week 1. Mason did miss a portion of San Francisco’s Week 6 victory due to a shoulder injury but is expected to play on Sunday.
Fortunately for the Chiefs, they will head into the game with a healthy defensive squad, meaning both teams will compete with their best lineups (excluding McCaffrey). Given that both teams excel in similar aspects, one side may need to falter, which could ultimately influence the outcome of the game.
