Andrew Thomas sustained a foot injury during the Giants’ 17-7 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday night, as he revealed in a postgame press conference.
“Something’s sore, I don’t know exactly what it is,” Thomas said after the game.
He mentioned that he underwent an X-ray and would have an MRI on Monday to determine the full extent of the injury.
Thomas, 25, said he was hurt in the second half during the Giants’ lone scoring drive, a determined 16-play, 79-yard push early in the third quarter. He was seen limping afterward.
When asked if he was concerned the injury might affect the rest of his season, Thomas responded that he’s unsure, saying, “We’ll see.”
Despite struggling in Sunday’s game, Thomas is still the Giants’ top offensive lineman. He’s had his share of lower-body injuries before, dealing with ankle issues in his first two NFL seasons (one of which required surgery) and missing much of last season with a hamstring injury he suffered while attempting to make a tackle after a blocked field goal.
If Thomas is sidelined, it would be a significant setback for the Giants, who have only recently seen improvement in their offensive line. In his absence, third-round pick Joshua Ezeudu would likely step in at left tackle.
According to Pro Football Focus, Thomas is currently ranked 20th among tackles with an overall grade of 74.3, with similar scores in both pass blocking (71.8) and run blocking (71.6).
