After five games into the season, the Buffalo Bills have the NFL’s 25th-ranked passing offense.
While some of their struggles could be due to the departure of All-Pro wide receiver Stefon Diggs, a major issue is the lack of a true No. 1 receiver for quarterback Josh Allen. Allen has yet to establish a strong connection with any of his current pass-catchers.
Reports suggest the Bills are actively seeking to bolster their receiving corps, with speculation linking them to Las Vegas Raiders’ wideout Davante Adams. However, a more realistic target could be Cleveland Browns’ receiver Amari Cooper, as suggested by CBS Sports’ Cody Benjamin.
“Maybe the Browns would absorb part of Cooper’s remaining contract to satisfy the seemingly discontented receiver,” Benjamin noted. “Josh Allen would likely support the move if it meant acquiring a legitimate No. 1 receiver.”
Currently, Buffalo’s top receiver, Khalil Shakir, has caught 18 passes on 19 targets for 230 yards and two touchdowns. The team’s second and third most productive pass-catchers are tight end Dalton Kincaid and running back James Cook.
While players like Curtis Samuel, Keon Coleman, and Mack Hollins have contributed, none have recorded a 100-yard game this season, and only two have surpassed 60 yards.
Adding a player of Cooper’s caliber could significantly enhance Buffalo’s passing game. The five-time Pro Bowler recorded 1,250 yards last season, averaging 17.4 yards per reception. He was also ranked second in the league for catches of 40 or more yards (eight) and 10th for catches of 20 or more yards (21).
