The New Orleans Saints have been struggling with injuries lately, and their matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 5 was no different.
Facing the undefeated Chiefs (4-0) on the road during Monday Night Football, the Saints were already at a disadvantage on paper against the reigning champions. However, their biggest challenge seems to be staying healthy. Entering the game with several key players already injured, the team saw another crucial player go down.
In the second quarter, veteran safety Will Harris pulled up while chasing Kansas City’s receiver, Xavier Worthy, and collapsed near the Chiefs’ sideline. Harris eventually managed to limp across the field before being taken to the locker room on a cart.
The Saints later confirmed that Harris sustained a hamstring injury, and he was ruled out for the rest of the game, as many had expected. Johnathan Abram, who had been elevated from the practice squad, took Harris’s place on the field. The focus now shifts to how long Harris might be sidelined, as he joins a growing list of injured Saints players.
Harris, who signed with the Saints this season, earned a starting spot alongside Tyrann Mathieu and has been performing well this year. Before Monday’s game, he had recorded 14 tackles, including one for a loss, three pass breakups, and one interception.
Previously with the Detroit Lions for five seasons, Harris has been known for his durability, missing only two regular-season games before joining New Orleans. The Saints are hopeful that he can maintain that reliability and return to the field soon.
