Fernando Gago is on the verge of being named Boca Juniors’ new head coach after reaching a verbal agreement with the Argentine club.
Reports indicate that negotiations are advancing smoothly, with Boca receiving confirmation from Gago, who is ready to accept a pay cut to realize his dream of managing the team where he once played.
This development comes at a pivotal time for Boca Juniors, as they search for a successor following Diego Martínez’s recent departure.
The club is also prepared to pay Chivas around $1 million to activate Gago’s release clause, finalizing his move in January. Although Chivas had hoped to keep him until the end of their tournament, Gago appears determined to return to Argentina.
Gago initially joined Chivas in December 2023, and while the Mexican club wanted to extend his contract through 2028, the Argentine coach has shown a strong desire to return to Boca. Chivas is open to facilitating his exit, as long as the release clause terms are met.
The agreement with Boca includes Gago’s readiness to accept a lower salary, further emphasizing his commitment to taking on this new role. He is expected to be officially announced as Boca’s head coach following his final game with Chivas.
