As the NY Giants prepare to face Seattle this weekend, it’s safe to say that things are getting tougher for head coach Brian Daboll. First, he announced that wide receiver Malik Nabers won’t be available for the Seahawks game due to the concussion he suffered against the Cowboys in Week 4, a major setback for their passing game.
On the ground, the situation isn’t looking much better. Starting running back Devin Singletary, who has been dealing with a groin injury and missed practice, is now listed as doubtful for Week 5, dimming hopes of his return.
The Giants had signed Singletary to a three-year deal after star RB Saquon Barkley left for the Philadelphia Eagles in free agency. Though Singletary has shown flashes of promise with 221 yards and two touchdowns, his costly fumbles in games against the Commanders and Browns have hurt the team.
With Singletary unlikely to play, rookie Tyrone Tracy Jr., a fifth-round pick, is expected to handle most of the carries on Sunday. Eric Gray, in his second year, will also see some action, though Tracy is likely to lead the backfield. Gray impressed during the preseason with two touchdowns against the Lions but hasn’t contributed much since. Tracy, known for his speed and receiving ability, will be counted on to step up against the Seahawks defense.
For the Giants, there’s no easy way to frame this: they desperately need a win to keep their season alive. Dropping to 1-4 would be disastrous for Daboll and his team. With Nabers ruled out and Singletary doubtful, avoiding that grim outcome feels like a steep challenge.
