Breaking News: Major Trade Proposal Sends $45 Million Star Edge Rusher to the Detroit Lions
The Detroit Lions made a significant offseason move by signing veteran edge rusher Marcus Davenport, aiming to finally provide Aidan Hutchinson with a reliable pass-rushing partner. However, with Davenport now sidelined for the season due to an elbow injury, some analysts believe the Lions should explore the trade market for a replacement.
Matt Holder from Bleacher Report suggested that the Lions could target New York Jets edge rusher Haason Reddick, who is currently embroiled in a contract dispute and hasn’t played this season. With rumors swirling about a potential trade, Holder noted that acquiring Reddick could fill both the immediate void left by Davenport and help the Lions address a long-term need at edge rusher.
“Davenport’s season-ending injury is a major setback for the Lions’ defense, as he was expected to complement Hutchinson and alleviate some pressure,” Holder wrote. He emphasized that Reddick’s push for a contract extension could align well with Detroit’s future plans, particularly since Davenport’s contract is only for one year.
Kristopher Knox, also of Bleacher Report, echoed this sentiment, naming Detroit and the Arizona Cardinals as potential landing spots for Reddick. Knox highlighted how adding Reddick would significantly strengthen a Lions defense that has shown vulnerability, especially after a tough game against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 4.
While there’s no indication yet that the Lions are pursuing Reddick, the team’s ambitions for the season could prompt them to make a bold move.
In the meantime, Jimmy Liao of USA Today’s Lions Wire pointed out that the Lions could rely on their existing players, including Levi Onwuzurike, Josh Paschal, and James Houston, to fill the gap left by Davenport. Currently, the Lions have struggled to generate a consistent pass rush outside of Hutchinson, who accounts for 6.5 of their 11 total sacks this season.
