Breaking News: Los Angeles Lakers Target $60 Million Center in Blockbuster NBA Trade Deal
As the 2024-25 NBA regular season approaches, a potential trade idea suggests that a $60 million center could be headed to the Los Angeles Lakers.
Last season, the Lakers finished with a 47-35 record, securing the eighth seed in the Western Conference. They were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs by the Denver Nuggets, losing the series 4-1. Following their exit, the Lakers parted ways with head coach Darvin Ham and brought in JJ Redick, a first-time head coach.
Although the team retained stars LeBron James and Anthony Davis, they didn’t make any major free-agent signings during the offseason. However, they did draft Dalton Knecht from Tennessee and Bronny James, LeBron’s son, from USC.
Currently, the Lakers appear satisfied with their roster, but the team could benefit from adding a center. National sports broadcaster Brandon “Scoop B” Robinson suggested a trade that would bring Mitchell Robinson to the Lakers in exchange for Gabe Vincent, a 2025 second-round pick, and a player like Jalen Hood-Schifino.
At present, the Lakers have three centers: Anthony Davis (6’10”), Jaxson Hayes (7’0″), and Christian Wood (6’8″). While Davis is their primary big man, the depth behind him could be strengthened.
Hayes, despite his height, has been inconsistent, averaging just 4.3 points and 3.0 rebounds last season. Wood contributed more with 6.9 points and 5.1 rebounds but lacks the size needed for dominant interior play. Acquiring a 7-footer like Mitchell Robinson, who averaged 5.6 points and 8.5 rebounds with the Knicks last season, could greatly improve the Lakers’ rebounding and interior defense.
The Lakers’ preseason will begin on Friday against the Minnesota Timberwolves, with six exhibition games leading up to their season opener, also against the Timberwolves, on October 22 at 10 p.m. ET.
