The Edmonton Oilers Have Assigned Four Players to Waivers as they Refine Their Roster in the Course of Training Camp.
The Edmonton Oilers placed Lane Pederson, Ben Gleason, Phil Kemp, and Colin Delia on waivers this morning, with James Hamblin being reassigned to the AHL’s Bakersfield Condors.
Both Pederson and Hamblin were considered longshots to make the NHL roster, but other young players have outperformed them in training camp and remain in contention.
Noah Philp skated with the expected fourth line, replacing Derek Ryan, signaling that he’s likely to make the team. Raphael Lavoie missed practice due to a lingering injury but is still able to play in exhibition games. Lavoie, who is waiver-eligible and likely to be claimed, poses a challenging decision for the Oilers regarding his future.
On defense, the pairings haven’t changed. Ty Emberson continues to skate with Darnell Nurse, while Josh Brown fills the sixth defenseman role. Troy Stecher and Travis Dermott are competing for the seventh spot. Although Josh Brown has struggled, the Oilers may opt to keep both Stecher and Dermott for depth. Dermott, currently on a tryout offer, would need to agree to a two-way contract to remain with the team.
With only two preseason games left, Coach Knoblauch and the Oilers will begin solidifying their regular-season lineup, building chemistry for the start of the new season. Hockey is almost back for Oilers fans!
