Saints execute a pivotal roster adjustment to compensate for the absence of a former Pro Bowler ahead of the showdown with the Falcons.

The New Orleans Saints are facing a number of injuries heading into Week 4 against the Atlanta Falcons, with a lengthy injury list and the loss of a key offensive player.

Saints Sign OL Shane Lemieux to Active Roster

In response to injuries, the Saints have signed offensive lineman Shane Lemieux to their active roster after placing Pro Bowl center Erik McCoy on injured reserve. The team also added interior lineman Chris Reed to their practice squad.

Lemieux is a candidate to start at center with McCoy sidelined. Lucas Patrick is another option, though he has primarily played at guard this season. Oli Udoh stepped in at guard when Patrick shifted to center, and he could start again if Patrick is needed in that position.

The Saints’ active roster changes suggest they may prefer to keep Patrick as a backup. Nick Saldiveri, who played in Week 3, may also see an increased role.

Additionally, guard Cesar Ruiz missed practice on Wednesday, and if he’s unable to play against the Falcons, the Saints will field an entirely different offensive line from 2023.

Ryan Ramczyk is out for the season due to a knee injury, and Trevor Penning is currently starting at tackle opposite rookie Taliese Fuaga.

With injuries piling up, Lemieux is likely to move from a depth role to a larger responsibility for the Saints.
