The Minnesota Wild are facing uncertainty regarding one of their key players for the season opener, following an injury incurred during training camp.
According to a statement from the Minnesota Wild, “INJURY UPDATE: Matt Boldy did not practice today and is week-to-week with a lower-body injury.” This news is a setback for the Wild, who depend on Boldy as a key contributor to their offense.
Boldy had been performing well during training camp, but his availability for the season opener against the Winnipeg Jets on October 10 is now in doubt. Head coach John Hynes remains hopeful, noting, “Matt was obviously having a very good training camp and had a really good summer. We’re anticipating him near the end of camp and ready for the start of the season.”
At 23, Boldy is coming off a career year, having scored 29 goals and recorded 40 assists for a total of 69 points, making him one of the Wild’s leading offensive players. He was second only to Kirill Kaprizov in scoring last season, ranking third on the team in goals behind Kaprizov and Joel Eriksson Ek. His potential absence at the start of the season would significantly impact the Wild.
Drafted 12th overall in 2019, Boldy has been a key player for the Wild. His loss would hinder the team’s efforts to make a playoff return in 2024-25, especially after missing the postseason last year due to injuries to captain Jared Spurgeon and other key players like Jonas Brodin and Mats Zuccarello. The Wild are eager to avoid a repeat of last season’s injury woes.
While the team is optimistic that Boldy’s injury won’t keep him out of regular-season games, there is still a chance he could miss some time. Updates on his condition will be provided as more information becomes available.
