Breaking News: San Francisco 49ers Running Back Journeys To Germany For Specialized Care.
You might assume there are numerous doctors in the Bay Area capable of treating tendonitis, but Christian McCaffrey’s journey to Germany for an experimental procedure suggests he’s facing a potentially career-threatening injury and is exploring a last resort.
The situation regarding McCaffrey’s Achilles tendonitis appears to be deteriorating. Initially placed on Injured Reserve, it was stated that his injury required merely rest. However, it seems that a trip to Germany for treatment not offered in the U.S. is also necessary.
Kyle Shanahan mentioned, “I’m not sure which doctor it is, but I know he is seeing a specialist who I believe can assist him with his Achilles issue, and I hope this will help.” This indicates that rest alone is not resolving the problem and that the situation may be more serious than tendonitis.
Originally, the 49ers labeled McCaffrey’s injury as a calf strain before disclosing the Achilles tendonitis prior to the season. He practiced with the team for two weeks leading up to the opener, appearing ready to play, until the 49ers unexpectedly sidelined him. Shanahan stated that McCaffrey did not experience a setback during practice, yet doubts linger.
As each week goes by, the likelihood of McCaffrey returning this season seems to diminish. Even if he does manage to come back, it likely won’t be anytime soon.
