Breaking News: Charlotte Hornets Agree to One-Year Contract with Los Angeles Lakers Power Forward
The Hornets plan to sign forward/center Harry Giles to a one-year contract, giving him a chance to secure a spot on the team, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.
At 26 years old and standing 6-foot-11, Giles was once a highly regarded prospect, but his career has been hindered by knee injuries. Last season, he signed a non-guaranteed deal with the Nets but was waived in February after remaining on the roster. He then finished the season with a two-way contract with the Lakers.
Over 23 games last year, Giles averaged 2.3 points and 1.4 rebounds. In addition to his time with the Nets and Lakers, he has played for the Kings and Trail Blazers, as well as in the G League.
A North Carolina native and former Duke player, signing with Charlotte marks a return home for him. He was initially drafted by Portland as the 20th overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft.
The Hornets currently have 13 players on fully guaranteed contracts, plus big man Taj Gibson, who has a partial guarantee, which means Giles will likely receive ample opportunity during training camp and the preseason.
