TRANSFER NEWS: Steelers Face Uncertainty at Right Tackle Ahead of Home Opener Against Chargers.
With the Pittsburgh Steelers’ home opener against the Los Angeles Chargers approaching, they may be missing a key offensive line starter.
Rookie tackle Troy Fautanu reportedly injured his knee during Friday’s practice and left early. Fautanu had been scheduled to make his second career start at right tackle on Sunday, but his availability is now uncertain.
If Fautanu can’t play, first-round draft pick Broderick Jones is expected to start at right tackle. After practice, Jones mentioned the uncertainty surrounding Fautanu’s injury, stating, “We really don’t know what his status is going to be.” Jones added that he stepped in during practice and is awaiting the results of Fautanu’s MRI. The final decision will be made by the coaching staff.
Earlier in the season, Jones and Fautanu had been alternating at right tackle. However, after Jones struggled with penalties in the Steelers’ Week 2 win, Fautanu took over and was expected to start in Week 3.
