Shohei Ohtani of the Los Angeles Dodgers hit one of the most remarkable home runs of the MLB season…
Just a day after making history by becoming the first MLB player to achieve 50 home runs and 50 stolen bases in a single season — following a three-homer, 10-RBI performance against the Miami Marlins — Ohtani continued his hot streak on Friday night against the Colorado Rockies at Dodger Stadium.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, with one runner on and two outs, Ohtani faced Rockies’ left-hander Kyle Freeland. After working the count full, Freeland threw a 92-mph fastball high in the strike zone, a pitch that was likely ball four. But Ohtani had other plans, sending the ball 423 feet over the center field fence for his 52nd home run of the season, drawing a collective gasp from the crowd.
It’s likely that Ohtani is one of the few, if not the only, players capable of hitting such a high pitch out of the park.
Adding to his historic season, Ohtani set another record during the Dodgers’ 6–4 victory, homering and stealing a base in the same game for the 14th time this season. This broke the previous single-season record set by Rickey Henderson of the New York Yankees in 1986.
Ohtani, the likely National League MVP, has an impressive .297/.378/.635 slash line this season, with 125 runs, 52 home runs, 122 RBIs, and 52 stolen bases across 151 games.
