Predictions as Clemson Tigers Face NC State Wolfpack in ACC Football Opener…
Here are the predictions from the All Clemson staff as the Clemson Tigers gear up to host their ACC opener against the NC State Wolfpack.
The No. 21 Clemson Tigers have a clear path to the ACC championship, beginning with Saturday’s noon showdown against NC State at Memorial Stadium.
Clemson (1-1) has had a two-week break since their dominant 66-20 victory over Appalachian State. Meanwhile, their conference schedule has only become more favorable, with no ranked opponents until November.
Despite the explosive performance against Appalachian State, Clemson’s offense needs to establish consistency for the upcoming games.
NC State (2-1) will start true freshman quarterback CJ Bailey, replacing the injured Grayson McCall. This is an ideal chance for Clemson to capitalize on Bailey’s first college start in one of the toughest venues in college football.
So, who will win? Here are the predictions from the All Clemson staff:
Michael Brauner, Staff Writer
Clemson 45, NC State 13
The Tigers found their offensive rhythm before the bye week. With two weeks to prepare and facing a freshman quarterback in his first start, Clemson will likely dominate from the start.
Matthew Postins, Staff Writer
Clemson 36, NC State 21
While Clemson may not score 35 points in the first quarter, their defense should make life difficult for Bailey. The longer the Wolfpack stays in the game, the harder it becomes for Clemson, but their offense should be efficient. Freshman receiver Bryant Wesco Jr. could have a standout performance as he becomes more familiar with the offense.
Christian Rauh, Staff Writer
Clemson 42, NC State 13
If Grayson McCall were playing, this game might be closer. However, with a freshman quarterback starting in Death Valley, one of the toughest environments in football, Bailey will likely struggle. Although he led a comeback win against LA Tech, Clemson will be too much for him to handle on Saturday.
Kenneth Teape, Staff Writer
Clemson 27, NC State 13
Clemson opens their ACC campaign after a big win over Appalachian State. The Tigers will build on that momentum, with running back Phil Mafah having a standout game against a vulnerable NC State run defense, rushing for over 100 yards for the second consecutive game.
