TRADE UPDATE: New York Giants Wild Reciever Denies Trade Request Rumors.
Over the first two weeks of the NFL season, Jalin Hyatt hasn’t played much for the New York Giants.
After a promising rookie year with 23 catches for 373 yards, the second-year receiver seemed poised for a bigger role, particularly due to his speed and ability to stretch defenses. However, he has been the fourth option behind Malik Nabers, Wan’Dale Robinson, and Darius Slayton so far this season.
On Friday, ESPN’s Jordan Ranaan reported that Hyatt had expressed over the summer that if the Giants weren’t going to use him, they should trade him. However, Hyatt refuted those claims when speaking to the media, saying he “loves being” with the Giants and respects general manager Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll, especially since they traded up to draft him.
“I didn’t say that. I don’t know where that came from, but it’s false,” Hyatt said, emphasizing that he never requested a trade and never expressed discontent about his role, particularly over the summer.
Hyatt seemed genuinely shocked by the rumors, adding, “It feels like a fake story. I didn’t say anything about not wanting to be here.”
So far, Hyatt has only played 28 offensive snaps, with one target and no catches. Despite a strong training camp, where he spent time with the first team and received praise from coaches, his limited role has been a surprise to him.
“I thought I had a really good training camp, and they told me I did. But there are things I can’t control. I am disappointed, but I’ll keep improving, and when my chance comes, I’ll be ready,” Hyatt said.
His future playing time will be something to monitor.
