2-time MLB All-Star out for season with finger injury
The 2024 season has ended early for a prominent multi-time All-Star infielder.
The Toronto Blue Jays announced Thursday that star shortstop Bo Bichette has been placed on the 10-day injured list due to a fracture in his right middle finger. With only 10 days remaining in the season, Bichette will miss the rest of the year.
At 26, Bichette, a two-time All-Star, had a disappointing 2024 season, hitting a career-low .225 with a .598 OPS, four home runs, and 31 RBIs. His struggles were partly due to injuries that kept him out of action for an extended period. He played just 81 games this season after missing about two months with a calf injury. Bichette had only just returned to the lineup on Tuesday before suffering this new injury that will sideline him for the remainder of the year.
With a 72-80 record, the Blue Jays are effectively eliminated from playoff contention and will now focus on what promises to be an interesting offseason. Bichette, who is under contract for one more season, was the subject of trade rumors at the July deadline. Some intriguing teams had shown interest, and Toronto may revisit those options this winter.
