Vancouver Canucks forward Dakota Joshua revealed on September 17 that he was diagnosed with testicular cancer over the summer and recently underwent surgery to remove a tumor. In a statement from the team, the 28-year-old discussed his diagnosis and ongoing recovery, noting that while he won’t be ready for training camp, he is determined to return during the 2024–25 NHL season. “This summer, I discovered a lump on one of my testicles, which was later diagnosed as cancer,” Joshua shared. He expressed gratitude that doctors were able to successfully remove the tumor and acknowledged the support of his family, friends, and medical team during the challenging weeks that followed.
Joshua also urged men to undergo regular checkups for testicular cancer, emphasizing that early detection was crucial in his case. “Though facing this type of cancer was tough, seeking medical help quickly was the best decision,” he said. As Joshua continues his recovery, the Canucks confirmed he won’t be cleared for the start of training camp. However, he remains committed to returning to the ice. “I’m working hard every day to rejoin my teammates and plan to play again as soon as possible this season.”
Last season, Joshua had a standout year, recording 18 goals and 14 assists over 63 games, achieving career highs. Across his time with the St. Louis Blues and Vancouver Canucks, he has accumulated 64 points in 184 regular-season games.
