Drafted by the Oilers sixth overall in the 2007 NHL Draft, Gagner had a standout junior year with the London Knights in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), where he accumulated 35 goals and 83 assists, totaling 118 points. Skyler Brind’Amour, son of Hurricanes head coach Rod Brind’Amour, played for the Charlotte Checkers, the Hurricanes’ AHL affiliate, during the 2023-24 season, tallying eight points in 54 games. He was selected 177th overall by the Edmonton Oilers in the 2017 NHL Draft.
