49ers Hit with Another Injury Blow: Deebo Samuel Out with Calf Strain…
The San Francisco 49ers have suffered yet another injury setback. Head coach Kyle Shanahan announced that wide receiver Deebo Samuel has strained his calf and will be sidelined for a few weeks, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Samuel, a 28-year-old former First Team All-Pro, sustained the injury during the team’s Week 2 loss to the Minnesota Vikings. Despite his strong performance of eight catches for 110 yards in that game, the injury news came as a surprise, as he showed no signs of being hurt during the matchup.
The 49ers, last season’s NFC champions, are dealing with a series of injuries. Wide receiver Ricky Pearsall is still recovering from being shot last month, and star running back Christian McCaffrey is on injured reserve with an Achilles issue.
With Samuel, one of the team’s most versatile and explosive offensive weapons, now out, the 49ers will likely rely on Chris Conley to step up as a starter alongside Brandon Aiyuk and Jauan Jennings. The 1-1 49ers have two winnable games on the horizon against the Los Angeles Rams and the New England Patriots, and they hope Samuel can return by Week 5.
