The Vancouver Canucks have signed Dylan Ferguson to a professional tryout (PTO), as announced by General Manager Patrik Allvin on Sunday night.
Ferguson, 25, played for Minsk Dynamo in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) during the 2023-24 season, where he recorded a 9-9-0 record, a .904 save percentage, and a 2.51 goals-against average over 23 games.
Originally drafted by the Dallas Stars in the seventh round of the 2017 NHL Entry Draft, Ferguson spent four seasons with the Kamloops Blazers in the Western Hockey League, finishing with a 61-72-11 record, a .908 save percentage, and a 3.04 goals-against average.
Shortly after being drafted, Ferguson was traded to the Vegas Golden Knights along with a 2020 second-round pick in exchange for defenseman Marc Methot.
He made a brief appearance for the Golden Knights early in the 2017-18 season, playing nine minutes and allowing one goal on two shots.
From the 2019-20 to 2022-23 seasons, Ferguson alternated between the American Hockey League (AHL) and the ECHL, with no more than 16 appearances for any one team in that period.
His most notable performance came in the 2020-21 season with the ECHL’s Fort Wayne Komets, where he had a 7-3-1 record in 11 regular-season games and helped the team win the Kelly Cup with a strong playoff showing.
In the 2022-23 season, Ferguson played 13 games with the AHL’s Belleville Senators and Toronto Marlies, achieving an 8-3-0 record. He also made two NHL starts with the Ottawa Senators, with a 1-1-0 record, a .940 save percentage, and a 2.52 goals-against average.
The Canucks had a successful 2023-24 season, finishing with a 50-23-9 record and earning 109 points to win the Pacific Division. However, they were defeated by the Edmonton Oilers in seven games during the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
