Edmonton Oilers’ Evander Kane Underoes Hernia Surgery…
Edmonton Oilers forward Evander Kane is expected to undergo surgery for a hernia issue within the next ten days, with an anticipated recovery time of 4-6 weeks.
In mid-August, reports surfaced suggesting that Kane might need surgery to address a sports hernia that had affected him throughout much, if not all, of last season’s Stanley Cup finals. It has now been confirmed that Kane will indeed need the surgery, though his return date remains uncertain.
According to Sportsnet’s Mark Spector, the 33-year-old winger will have the procedure soon. While hernia surgeries can be serious, Kane may be able to resume workouts in about four to six weeks after the operation.
Kane, who joined the Oilers during the 2021-2022 season, played 77 games in the regular season, tallying 24 goals and 20 assists. In the postseason, he appeared in 20 games, contributing 4 goals and 4 assists.
Though the Oilers will miss Kane in the short term, addressing the issue now will ensure he can return healthy for the bulk of the regular season and playoffs. Despite previous rumors of tension between Kane and the Oilers over the summer, both parties appear committed to building on last season’s performance.
