Alex Freedman reports that the Los Angeles Dodgers have signed left-handed pitcher Zach Logue to a minor-league contract. Previously designated for assignment by the Atlanta Braves, Logue will pitch tonight for Triple-A Oklahoma City.
Logue was drafted in the ninth round by the Toronto Blue Jays in 2017 and was later traded to the Oakland Athletics for Matt Chapman. He made his MLB debut with the Athletics in 2022, recording a 3-8 record with a high ERA across 31 appearances in both Triple-A and the majors.
In late 2022, the Detroit Tigers claimed him off waivers, where he appeared in three games out of the bullpen. His ERA was above seven, and he struggled at Triple-A Toledo with a 6.58 ERA and a 3-10 record.
However, in December 2023, Logue signed with the Atlanta Braves. He spent the year in the minors, splitting time between Double-A Mississippi and Triple-A Gwinnett, where he posted a 5-6 record with a 2.56 ERA over 24 appearances, including 12 starts.
Dodgers President of Baseball Operations Andrew Friedman is known for finding undervalued talent, and Logue’s versatility as both a starter and reliever could add much-needed depth to a pitching staff currently facing numerous injuries. With left-handed reliever Anthony Banda out indefinitely with a broken hand and Walker Buehler and Bobby Miller struggling to return to form, Logue may quickly find a role with the Dodgers.
