Jon Rahm Refuses to Pay DP World Tour Fines, Aims to Compete in Key European Tournaments…
Jon Rahm, the Spanish golfer and two-time major champion, has pledged to play in three European events before the year concludes to maintain his Ryder Cup eligibility. Despite this commitment, Rahm announced he will not pay the fines imposed by the DP World Tour for his participation in LIV Golf events.
Since joining LIV Golf last December, Rahm faces a deadline to address fines related to competing in Saudi-backed events that clash with DP World Tour tournaments. As he prepares for the LIV Golf event in Chicago this week, Rahm has expressed a strong desire to participate in the Spanish Open, the Andalucia Masters, and the Dunhill Links Championship. However, his participation remains uncertain.
Rahm has openly criticized the fines and emphasized that he does not plan to pay them. He continues to seek discussions with the tour to find a resolution, stressing that his motivation to participate in the Spanish Open is driven by his sense of duty to Spanish golf rather than personal gain.
There might be a possibility for Rahm to compete by appealing the sanctions, as seen with LIV Golf’s Tyrrell Hatton, who played in the British Masters after appealing his penalties, with fines to be settled later.
Luke Donald, who will captain Europe in the next Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black in New York, is likely keeping a close eye on the situation. Rahm was a key player in Europe’s triumph over the United States in last year’s Ryder Cup held in Rome.
