Texas Rangers Promote Owen White to Replace Injured Reliever Grant Anderson

The Texas Rangers have placed reliever Grant Anderson on the injured list and called up a Triple-A prospect for the fourth time this season.

Pitcher Owen White was recalled from Triple-A Round Rock ahead of Friday’s game, as Anderson was moved to the 15-day injured list due to a right ankle contusion, according to the team’s announcement.

White’s call-up helps provide depth behind Friday’s starter, Gerson Garabito. This marks the 25-year-old’s fourth stint with Texas this season. White, who ranks as the Rangers’ No. 26 prospect according to MLB Pipeline, has previously made two relief appearances for the Rangers, allowing six earned runs in just one inning of work. His last appearance came on May 13.

With Round Rock, White has posted a 2-8 record with a 5.55 ERA, recording 82 strikeouts and 45 walks in 26 games (15 starts). Recently, he has begun transitioning to a full-time relief role. In his most recent outing on Wednesday for Round Rock, White allowed one earned run and one hit in one inning, while striking out two and walking one.

Anderson, meanwhile, is on the injured list retroactive to Thursday after taking a line drive to his right ankle in Wednesday’s game against the New York Yankees. He is eligible to return as early as Sept. 20. This season, Anderson has been shuttling between the Rangers and Round Rock, making six trips to Texas. For the Rangers, he holds a 0-1 record with one save and an 8.10 ERA over 23 relief appearances, while with Round Rock, he’s posted a 3-0 record with a 2.96 ERA in 23 relief outings.

This move keeps the Rangers at the 40-man roster limit, with five players on the 60-day injured list: Evan Carter, Carson Coleman, Jacob deGrom, Jon Gray, and Cole Winn. deGrom is scheduled for a rehab outing with Double-A Frisco on Saturday, which could be his final appearance before returning. Max Scherzer, currently on the 15-day IL, will also make a rehab start for the Express in Las Vegas on Saturday.
