Rams Fortunate to Start 2024 Season on the Road with SoFi Stadium Heat…
Facing the Detroit Lions in Week 1 is already a challenge, but doing so in 90-degree heat would be worse. While LA Rams fans may wish for a home game to kick off the 2024 NFL season, there are several reasons the schedule works in the team’s favor.
A home game at SoFi Stadium provides the comfort of familiar surroundings, no travel, and an enthusiastic crowd. However, the NFL schedulers did the Rams a major favor by placing them on the road for Week 1.
With nine home games lined up in the 2024 season, the Rams will start away from home, avoiding the scorching heat of Los Angeles. Since SoFi Stadium is shared with the Chargers, one team must travel if the other plays at home.
This year, the Chargers host the Las Vegas Raiders in their opening game, and forecasts predict temperatures in the 90s.
Though SoFi Stadium features a dome and is designed for airflow, fans will still have to endure the heat. Thankfully, the Rams will avoid these conditions, as they play in Ford Field, where the weather will be much cooler.
Kickoff temperatures in Detroit are expected to be in the upper 60s, dropping to the low 60s by the end of the game—a refreshing contrast to the heat in LA.
With the Rams already battling injuries, avoiding extreme temperatures is a relief. Starting the season against a potential playoff team like the Lions is tough enough without the added burden of playing in the intense late-summer sun.
