REPORT: Hornets Rebuild Around 21 Year-old Top Rising Star in Blockbuster Trade After Annoucing the Departure of Top Player…

The Los Angeles Clippers could acquire All-Star point guard LaMelo Ball in a major trade this summer. With Kawhi Leonard and James Harden nearing the end of their primes, the Clippers need to push for an NBA title in the 2024-25 season. With Paul George no longer on the team, the Clippers could benefit from adding LaMelo Ball, especially since LaVar Ball, LaMelo’s father, expressed his desire to see his son join the Clippers.

Proposed Trade

– Clippers Receive: LaMelo Ball
– Hornets Receive: Norman Powell, Terance Mann, Bones Hyland, 2030 first-round pick swap (LAC), 2029 and 2031 second-round picks

This trade could significantly impact the Western Conference. The Clippers would gain more offensive firepower, while the Hornets would rebuild around their young core. Below is an analysis of why this trade would be beneficial for both teams.

Clippers Form a New Big Three

Adding LaMelo Ball would create a fresh Big Three for the Clippers alongside Leonard and Harden. Ball, who averaged 23.9 points, 8.0 assists, and 5.1 rebounds in the 2023-24 season, would enhance the team’s playmaking. Harden’s shooting and Leonard’s defensive prowess would complement Ball’s skills, making the Clippers one of the league’s strongest offensive teams.

Moreover, LaMelo provides a long-term future for the Clippers as a former All-Star and 2020-21 Rookie of the Year. Standing 6’7″, he is an elite passer and shooter, offering a versatile scoring threat. His ability to involve teammates could allow Leonard and Harden to focus more on their roles without having to constantly initiate offense. Ball’s creativity and ability to penetrate defenses would give the Clippers a significant advantage against rivals like the Nuggets and Timberwolves.

On defense, the trio of Ball, Harden, and Leonard could be highly effective, with Leonard remaining an elite wing defender and Ball capable of disrupting passing lanes (1.8 steals per game in 2023-24). Though Harden is not known for his defense, he could fit into a switch-heavy scheme, giving the Clippers a balanced lineup that could adjust to various playoff challenges.

 Hornets Rebuild Around Brandon Miller

In this trade, the Charlotte Hornets would receive valuable assets in Norman Powell, Terance Mann, and Bones Hyland, while paving the way for Brandon Miller to become the face of the franchise. Miller, the No. 2 pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, has shown potential by averaging 17.3 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 2.4 assists as a rookie. With Ball in Los Angeles, Miller could take on a more prominent role as the team’s main scorer and playmaker.

Powell would bring veteran leadership and scoring to the Hornets, averaging 13.9 points and shooting 40.1% from three last season. He could help guide younger players while contributing consistently off the bench or as a starter. Terance Mann, a strong defender and energetic forward, and Bones Hyland, a creative combo guard, would add depth and youth to Charlotte’s roster.

The Hornets would also gain valuable draft capital, including a 2030 first-round pick swap and two future second-round picks. These assets could be used to draft young talent or as leverage in future trades, accelerating the Hornets’ rebuild around Miller, who has demonstrated a strong offensive game and defensive potential.

Why the Clippers Win in This Trade

While both teams would benefit, the trade leans in favor of the Clippers. LaMelo Ball would address their need for a dynamic playmaker while setting the team up for future success. As Leonard and Harden age, Ball could step into a leadership role, extending the Clippers’ championship window. His playmaking would also allow Leonard and Harden to focus on their strengths, reducing their workload and the risk of injury during the regular season.

This trade would also make the Clippers an appealing destination for future free agents. A young core featuring LaMelo Ball could attract more talent, positioning the team for both short- and long-term success.
