As the Oakland A’s season draws to a close, the team is wrapping up its final month of games by continuing a recent tradition known as “Alumni Sundays.” These events, which have taken place over the past few months, bring back former A’s players to engage with fans. The last two Alumni Sundays of the season now have their guest lists finalized.
This Sunday, when the A’s face the Detroit Tigers, fans will see appearances from Eric Byrnes, Adam Rosales, and Dallas Braden. Byrnes, who now lives in Tahoe, previously mentioned that attending games would be more convenient if the A’s move to Las Vegas, which could make his reception from fans noteworthy.
Adam Rosales and Dallas Braden are fan favorites for different reasons. Braden is best known for pitching a perfect game on Mother’s Day in 2010, one of only 19 in MLB history. Last season, he was in the broadcasting booth when Domingo Germán of the New York Yankees threw a perfect game against the A’s.
Rosales, renowned for his hustle, especially when rounding the bases after home runs, had a memorable journey in 2013 when he was designated for assignment (DFA) by the A’s, claimed by the Texas Rangers, then DFA’d again, and finally reclaimed by the A’s—all within a span of days. He is currently a hitting coach in the A’s Arizona Complex League and last played in 2019.
The final Alumni Sunday in Oakland will be on September 22, when the A’s face the Yankees. That event will feature former World Series champions and an AL MVP—Miguel Tejada, Terry Steinbach, and Carney Lansford.
During Alumni Sundays, fans have the opportunity to meet these A’s legends up close at an autograph session held in the Eastside Club. The session starts at 11:35 a.m. and lasts for about an hour. The players sign 5×7 autograph cards provided at the event, and personal items are not allowed for signing.
To secure a spot in line and guarantee an autograph, it’s recommended to arrive early and use the BART ramp entrance, which provides a quicker route to the Eastside Club.
