According to insider reports, Stan Bowman and the Edmonton Oilers have a trade lined up. After trading Cody Ceci to the San Jose Sharks, Frank Seravalli mentioned that the Oilers are close to securing another right-handed defenseman.
The Oilers nearly ended Canada’s three-decade Stanley Cup drought but fell short in Game 7 against the Florida Panthers.
This led to tough roster decisions, including trading Cody Ceci and a third-round pick to the San Jose Sharks for Ty Emberson.
This move came shortly before the team lost Philip Broberg and Dylan Holloway to offer sheets from the St. Louis Blues.
Although Ty Emberson is also a right-handed defenseman, he hasn’t progressed to Ceci’s level. However, Edmonton is reportedly working on acquiring another defenseman.
Frank Seravalli recently mentioned on OilersNow with Bob Stauffer that the Oilers are exploring options beyond just a PTO (Professional Tryout) deal, with a possible trade being finalized before training camp.
Seravalli didn’t disclose the player’s identity but suggested that the Oilers are considering several options.
As training camp approaches, the chances of finalizing this deal are dwindling. Still, if Seravalli’s report holds any truth, the Oilers might introduce a new defenseman soon.
